Ovid Ritch Day

Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the life of a remarkable man—Ovid Ritch Day. At 82 years old, Ritch leaves behind a legacy that stretches far beyond the years he lived. He was a Navy Veteran, a patriot who served his country with pride and dignity. But his service didn’t end when he took off the uniform—it continued in every act of kindness, every helping hand, and every life he touched.

Ritch had a passion for working on cars, not just as a hobby, but as a way of connecting with others. His garage wasn’t just a place for engines and tools—it was a sanctuary for stories, laughter, and healing. He loved to travel, to see the world beyond his doorstep, and yet he never forgot where he came from or the people who mattered most.

He was a karate instructor, a man of discipline and strength, but also of compassion. Hundreds of people knew him not just for his skills, but for his heart. When someone was down, Ritch was the one who showed up – no questions asked, no judgment given. He offered help, hope, and a quiet kind of heroism that never asked for recognition.

Ritch was a devoted son. He took care of his parents with unwavering love and dedication. They never wanted for anything – not in life, and not in their final days – because Ritch was there, doing everything, giving everything. That kind of loyalty is rare, and it speaks volumes about the man he was.

He was a loving brother and uncle, deeply cherished by his family. Ritch was preceded in death by his Father Harry William Day Sr., his mother Reva Ritch Day, his brother Harry Day, sister Camille Storment and nephew Raymond Logan Flewellen.  He is survived by his sister Reva Currier, brother Herbert Day, his nieces Toni Kaupert and Kathy Reynolds, his nephew Bruce Day, his great nephews Justin Davis, Thomas Kaupert, John Kaupert, 3 great-grand nephews and 5 great-grand nieces. Their grief today reflects the deep love they shared with him—a love that will endure long after this moment.

Ritch Day lived a life of quiet greatness. He didn’t seek the spotlight, but he illuminated the lives of everyone around him. His legacy is written in the hearts of those he helped, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he made better simply by being himself.

We say goodbye today with heavy hearts, but also with gratitude. Thank you, Ritch, for your service, your strength, your kindness, and your love. You will be missed but never forgotten.

A visitation for Ritch will be on Friday, September 12, 2025 starting at 9:00AM with a service at 10:00AM at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque, TX.  Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, TX.  Officiating the services will be Msgr. James Anderson.
