Mary Anne Farrell Opaskar

Mary Anne Farrell Opaskar, 85, passed away on September 1st due to complications from dementia. The grandchild of immigrants, she was born in a Slovenian neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio and was proud of her heritage. She earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in history and was a teacher all her life. She taught for 40 years in all types of classes and grade levels, including high school Spanish and citizenship classes.

She lived in Ohio, Michigan, the Netherlands, Louisiana, and finally Texas, where she served as a board member for her home owner’s association. She had an enduring love of travel, visiting many countries across five continents. Her most memorable trips were to Iran, and a solo ride across Russia on the Trans-Siberian Railroad from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok, with a side excursion to Mongolia. She also enjoyed antiques and learning new languages. She lectured many times at the Antiques Forum in League City.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in League City and Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church in Dickinson, where she ran the gift shop for a time. She is survived by her husband, Carl, 4 children, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held in her honor on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a wake service at 7:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home in League city, Texas.  Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Shrine of the True Cross located at 300 Fm 517 Rd E, Dickinson, TX 77539.
