Lois Annetta McClure Meredith
Lois McClure Meredith, age 97, of Kingwood, Texas, passed away on June 18, 2025. Lois was born August 24, 1927 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to Earl and Hazel McClure. After graduating from Cecil High School, finishing her education a year early and earning the honor of salutatorian, Lois attended the Robert Morris School of Business in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduation, Lois went on to work for Blue Cross.
In 1947, Lois met Lloyd (Red) Meredith during a Memorial Day celebration. They wed on December 27, 1947, and went on to have five children: Kathleen, Craig, Douglas, Lisa and Jodi.
After the birth of her firstborn child, Kathi, life became an adventure for Lois, taking her all around Texas, New Mexico, Venezuela and Libya while Red searched for oil. While Red would go ahead to find housing, Lois often traveled with four young children alone. Whether it was across the United States or across the world, she always did it with style, grace and a lot of patience. Finally in 1964, the family settled in Houston, Texas where they welcomed their fifth and final child, Jodi. Lois and Red remained in Houston until 1982 when they relocated to Kingwood, Texas.
For many years, Lois was active in her community and her church. She served as President of the Women’s Geophysical Auxiliary while living in Houston. As a member of the Methodist church in Kingwood, she served as a wedding coordinator and volunteered for U.M. Army trips where she cooked meals for the youth. Lois was an avid golfer, playing weekly with the nine-hole ladies’ group at Kingwood Country Club. One of her greatest joys was volunteering annually as a scorekeeper during the Houston Open and Doug Sanders Golf Tournaments. She would walk the course day after day, always with a smile on her face. Lois gave her time to deliver Meals on Wheels in the Humble and surrounding communities. Later in life, Lois volunteered to read to kindergarten students in Humble I.S.D. She became “Grammy” to those students and loved visiting with them when able. Lois had a servant’s heart, and was willing to give of herself and her time to those in need.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lloyd; her parents, Earl and Hazel McClure; siblings, Alice Chastel and Bill McClure. She is survived by her sister, Jane Miller; children Kathleen Douglas, Craig Meredith (Mary), Douglas Meredith (Dawn); Lisa Rankin (Jeff), and Jodi Nester (Guy). She is also survived by her 25 grandchildren and her 25 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Watercrest Apartments, Watercrest Garden Village Assisted Living, and Devotion Hospice for the love, care, and compassion you showed our mother. She truly cherished the friends she made there, and we don’t know what we would have done without your support.
A celebration of Lois’ life will take place at Strawbridge United Methodist Church, Kingwood, Texas, on July 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. A private committal service will be held at the Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of our mother, Lois Meredith, to Strawbridge United Methodist Church.
