George James LeClair Walker

George James LeClair Walker, 86, passed away on September 10, 2025, in Webster, TX. He was born on August 16, 1939 in Washington DC to Thomas and Helen Walker. George is survived by: his wife of 22 years, Lois; son, Robert Sterner and his wife Kendra Sterner, sister, Frances Swisher; brothers, Thomas Walker and John Walker; grandchildren, Levi Sterner and Bethany Sterner and numerous family members and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents and sister Charlotte Bonin.

George grew up as a military brat living in various places in the U.S. and in France. George completed high school at the embassy school in Paris in 1957. After graduation, leaving his family in France, he returned stateside to attend the military college The Citadel in Charleston South Carolina. George graduated from The Citadel in 1961. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army medical service serving as an officer in hospital administration positions both in active duty and reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. After completing his Army active duty, George worked as a computer programmer for the U.S. Navy at the Washington Navy Yard programming in what was then a relatively new computer language COBOL (Common Business-Oriented Language). Later he worked as a computer specialist for NASA Houston.  He had a passion for history, especially military, and European languages.  He loved to talk about history with anyone that would listen. George also served as an officer in the Military Order Of World Wars organization.

George was a confirmed bachelor for most of his life. A longtime hobby of his was square dancing, which he did for many years. While square dancing, he met Lois, who became a longtime friend and at 64 he married her, and spent the best years of his life with her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Crowder Funeral Home, Webster, TX.   2. George was a simple guy with a fancy name…. LeClair, a French surname meaning the “clear” or “bright” one. He was certainly bright in the sense of his extensive knowledge. He was interesting to talk to. He was generous, loving and kind.
    Our hearts go out to Lois, Robert, Kendra, Levi, Bethany and the entire Walker family.
    May fond memories of George and the love you shared bring you peace and comfort, today and always.
