Charles Larry Smith, age 86, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Born on March 5, 1939, in Nitro, West Virginia, Larry was the beloved son of Charles Arthur Smith and Garnet Lee Coulter Smith.
A proud graduate of Nitro High School, Class of 1957, Larry went on to earn his degree from the prestigious North Western Graduate School of Banking in 1969. He dedicated his professional life to the fields of banking and mortgage lending, where he built a respected and successful career.
On August 1, 1959, Larry married the love of his life, Judith Anne Britton. Together, they shared a beautiful life and were blessed with three children. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (“PaPa”), brother, and son. His greatest joy came from his family, whom he supported with unwavering love and pride.
In 1982, seeking greater opportunities for his family, Larry moved to Houston, Texas. The following year, they settled in Friendswood, where he resided for the next 40 years. This move not only advanced Larry’s career but also created educational and career opportunities for his children.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Judith Ann Smith. He remained a faithful and loving widower for 22 years.
He is survived by his children: Charles Allen “Chuck” Smith and wife Leigh; Christopher Mark “Chris” Smith and wife Amy; and Julia Anne Smith Slovak and husband Steven. He also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Brandon Kyle Slovak and wife Kinsey, and Britton Christopher Smith; as well as his younger brother, James Lee Smith of Oakland, Tennessee.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate Larry’s life.
