Anne “Nancy” Marie Paine Owens
On July 15, 2025, Anne “Nancy” Marie Paine Owens passed away in League City, Texas. Nancy was the seventh child born to Robert Treat Paine and Mary Catherine Lewis Paine on July 21,1933 in Lebanon, PA.
Nancy and her husband Glenn met while serving as an air traffic controller and weatherman in the U.S. Navy at the naval base in Corpus Christi, Texas during the Korean War. Their first date was attending a Harlem Globe Trotters Basketball Game. They soon married on September 26, 1953 in Lebanon, PA.
They moved to Kingsville, Texas to begin their college careers at Texas A&I University while simultaneously starting their family of seven children which soon grew to include five sons; Donald Owens, Robert (Barbara) Owens, Mike (Tina Mueller) Owens, Travis (Denise) Owens, Stephen (Marsa) Owens, and two daughters; Sallie (Michael) Villarreal, and Frances (Bradley) Yeaney.
Nancy was a much beloved fourth grade teacher at LaVace Stewart Elementary School in Kemah, Texas for 21 years. She was an active member of the Texas State Teachers Association, going to the state capital in Austin on many occasions to advocate for teachers and students.
Upon her retirement, she continued to be involved with education; holding various positions within the local retired teachers association. Nancy was very proud of her family’s heritage which led to her involvement with the local chapter of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church of League City, Texas for 56 years. Upon the death of her husband Glenn; she took over the reins of running the church food pantry that Glenn had faithfully led for many years. She took great pride in making sure that it ran smoothly; from organizing the shelves to doing endless shopping trips to help keep it well stocked.
Nancy was known for her love of playing Yahtzee with her many grandchildren; Chad (April Sandoval) Owens, Doree Owens, Julie Villarreal, Matthew Owens, Clare (Greg) Summers, Andreas Mueller, Jennifer Smith, Sarah Villarreal, Jackson Yeaney, Meredith Owens, Ted Yeaney and David Owens and great-grandchild Asher Owens.
Nancy will be fondly remembered by all of her family; from her children to her great-great nieces and nephews, for never forgetting to send a card on a birthday, anniversary or holiday.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn of 50 years, her son Stephen, her granddaughters Clare and Doree, her brothers Bob and Joe Paine and her sisters Ibbie Good, Madeline Moyer, Mary Lou Matarazzi, Kathryn Sattazahn and Janet McParland.
A viewing will be held on what would have been her 92nd birthday on July 21, 2025 at 9:00 AM at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church located at 1612 East Walker Street, League City, Texas 77573. It will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM. Graveside services will follow at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery located at 7801 Gulf Freeway, Dickinson, Texas 77539.

Dear Cousins and your families. I send you all condolences on the passing of your mother, my Aunt Nancy.
I always enjoyed any time I was with her or talked to her on the phone. I really enjoyed all her greeting cards too.
It was a very special thing she did for so many of us.
