The loss of a true angel! Amy Christine Hodges King

On July 4th, 2025 God gained a true angel in His kingdom. Our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend lost her courageous two-year battle with the horrible disease we call cancer.

On Valentine’s Day of 2023, the battle began—and oh, how she fought. Through many surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, her commitment to the fight never wavered, nor did her everlasting devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

God gifted one of His chosen angels to this earth in Freeport, Texas, on the night of September 25, 1972. Amy was born to Larry (proceeded in death) and Rosmary Hodges of Sweeny, Texas. Before her birth, her older brother, Shan Hodges of Sweeny, Texas was already there to one day welcome his favorite little sister. After Amy’s birth, her family grew to include her brother Wade Hodges of Sweeny, Texas, and her sister Erin Hodges DeWitt of Dripping Springs, Texas.

Amy and her siblings grew up in the Sweeny Independent School District, where she excelled in academics and was honored by being elected into the National Honor Society. Amy was active in many extracurricular activities, including volleyball, track, twirling, and band. Amy was also a dedicated member of the local 4-H program, where she and her family raised and showed turkeys and pigs.

After graduating, Amy continued her academic journey at Brazosport Junior College, where she interned at the Freeport Dow Research Lab. She later began a long and successful career at Chevron / Chevron Phillips beginning in 1994, where she worked for over 30 years. During her distinguished career, Amy received many awards and even held a patent for her work in Chevron’s research lab.

After High school, Amy reunited with her junior high school sweetheart, Bruce Edward King. In 1994, they were married at First Baptist Church of Sweeny, Texas, where they were members for many years.

Amy and Bruce have three sons, Michael Hodges King, (proceeded in death), Nicholas King of Danbury, Texas, Nicholas is married to Jessica King. Braden King, of Pearland,
Texas. Braden is married to Emily King.

Marriage also brought Amy into a second loving family: Cleston and Judy King of Sweeny, Texas; sister-in-law Tammy King of Sweeny; niece Abby Klutz; and nephews Brian and Kyle Klutz, along with their families, all of Sweeny.

Despite her full-time career and dedication to her family, Amy continued her education at the University of Houston – Clear Lake, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, earning a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. Her ability to juggle motherhood, marriage, and a career, all while graduating with honors, speaks to the strength and determination she exemplified every day.

Amy’s legacy lives on through her three cherished grandchildren: Carly King, Carter King, and Asher King.

Amy loved spending time with her family, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events, cooking, and above all, loving the Lord.

At the time of her passing, Amy and Bruce resided in Beaumont, Texas, where they were active members of Calvary Baptist Church. Prior to their time at Calvary, they spent 16 years attending New Hope Church in Pearland, Texas. As we mourn her passing, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support of our family, friends, and church life connection group. As we reflect on her life, we focus on her many accomplishments and the countless moments she spent loving those around her.

With deep honor, we welcome the following pallbearers: Braden and Nicholas King, Shan and Wade Hodges, Brandon and Brian O’Higgins, and Jamie DeWitt. Cancer is a cruel disease, but Amy’s suffering is over. Until we meet again in God’s Kingdom—Amy Christine Hodges King, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother—may God bless each of you. If you have not begun your walk with Christ, it’s never too late. Today is the day.

There will be a service at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 10th, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church at 3650 Dowlen Road, Beaumont, TX 77706. Burial to follow at Sweeny Cemetery in Sweeny, TX.
