Alma Jo Douglass

Alma Jo Douglass of Seabrook, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025 in Nassau Bay, Texas at the age of 87.

Alma Jo, known by her many friends as Jodie, will be will be welcomed in to heaven by her husband Terry, parents Joe and Alma, and her sister Alberta. Jodie was born Crystal City, Texas, and grew up in the suburbs of San Antonio, Texas, where she attended an all girls Catholic school, graduating from Providence High School, class of 1956. After graduation, Jodie met Terry on a blind date while he was stationed at Lackland AFB. They soon fell in love and were married in San Antonio on October 11th 1960. He loved Frank Sinatra “almost” as much as she did.

The following year upon Terry’s discharge from the Air Force, the newlyweds moved to Lawrence, Kansas to live close to Terry’s parents. Jodie loved driving fast and racked up speeding tickets that were hard to keep secret for long as they were published in the local paper, which her father in law loved to announce over Sunday dinner. While that sounds tough, her new in-laws also taught her a love of gardening, canning, and all things new to her on the farm. She continued her love of nature and growing things until the day she passed. In 1970 the family established their roots in Texas by purchasing a home in the brand new ParkGlen neighborhood in Alief. Jodie was very active in the local community where she raised money and made plans for the neighborhood pool and Community Center, established the first Garden Club, and led the Girl Scouts. Jodie became a Red Cross Water Instructor in order to provide swim lessons to the neighborhood children and adults, and free swim lessons to beginners and lifeguard trainees every summer. Jodie established the ParkGlen Sharks swim team and steered the team to many victories and gold medals over the years.

Jodie chose to remain at home with her children, postponing her career until they were in high school. She then worked as an executive assistant at Puffer-Sweiven, followed by employment with Alcon Surgical until retirement. During her life she stayed involved in her many community projects, including the Master Gardeners of Richmond, and St John’s Craft Guild. She was a passionate quilter, designing many award winning quilts. She shared her gift, donating quilts to Breast Cancer Survivors and in celebration of newborns.

Throughout her life she was fortunate to have many friends, some of which are here today. Jodie is survived by son John Douglass, and daughter Jeanette Bush with her husband Scott, and her favorite
granddaughter Rebecca Matthews.

Celebration of Life will be held at 12 o’clock on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at St. Paul’s the Apostle Catholic Church, located at 18223 Point Lookout Dr. Houston, TX 77058.
