Billie Jean (Savell) Hodges, a remarkable woman who lived to be 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 18, 2025, surrounded by her son by her bedside. Her final resting place is League City, Texas, where she had resided for the past 16 years.

Billie Jean Hodges was born on September 4, 1930, in Silver City, Mississippi, to her parents, Mary Elizabeth Ezell and William Detress Savell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J.E. Hodges, and her second husband, Richard C. Hawk. Her children, Michael Hodges and Rick Hodges, as well as her grandchildren, Jason Matthew Hodges, Jon Mark Hodges Jr., and Jessica Hodges, and her stepson Richard Hawk also passed away.

Billie Jean is survived by her son, Jon Mark Hodges Sr., her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Hodges and Larissa Hodges, her stepson, Charles C. Hawk, Michael Hawk, her step-daughters, Arlyn Tyler and Esther Appman, her sister, Maxine Herring, her grandchildren, Brooke Vredenburg (Thomas) and Erin Scheidler (Aaron), her great-grandchildren, Christian Hodges, Caelyn Hodges, and Emilia Scheidler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Billie Jean, a native of Silver City, Mississippi, graduated from Silver City High School in 1949. A star player on her high school basketball team, she cherished team sports. On December 31, 1952, she married J.E. Hodges in Silver City, Mississippi. Together, they had three sons: Michael, Rick, and Jon. As a military family, they embarked on extensive travels, residing in various regions of the US and Europe before settling in League City in 1973. J.E. had retired after 30 years of dedicated service to our country.

Tragically, Billie Jean lost her beloved husband, J.E., unexpectedly in 1975. Determined to honor his memory, she pursued continuing education and enrolled in the College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas, from 1976 to 1977.  In 1979, Billie Jean married her second husband Richard C. Hawk and moved to Pasadena, Texas.

Dedicated to her family and sons, Billie Jean found fulfillment in working outside the home. Her career spanned over 60 years, working in retail and clerical roles. Her journey began in the Sears credit department, where she spent many years while her husband was deployed to Vietnam. Upon his return, she pursued her career in civil service, serving as a cashier and manager in the commissary as the family relocated to various parts of the country and Europe. After her husband’s retirement from the military, they settled in League City, Texas, where her husband passed away a few years later.

In 1979, after marrying her second husband Richard Hawk, Billie Jean moved to Pasadena, Texas, and began working for Galveston Truck Lines as an office manager. She later worked for Presto Trucking, Enclean Industrial Services, and Tuesday Morning.

Billie Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her love and care for her family were unwavering. She will forever be remembered for her generous spirit and willingness to go to great lengths to support her loved ones.
