Lowell Leon Beck
Lowell Leon Beck, 95, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2025. He was born on April 5,1930, in San Angelo, Texas where he lived until his family lost their farm during the Great Depression. They relocated to Lexington, Texas to a survival farm where his family traded their labor for food and necessities. When the Depression ended, his father was able to find a job and moved his family to Houston. Lowell never forgot where he came from and always kept photographs of the little barn and shack they called home on his desk. He was raised according to the principles that would remain with him throughout his long and accomplished life: service, perseverance, hard work, unswerving moral standards, and ceaseless generosity.
Lowell graduated from Milby High School in 1949 and went on to earn a degree in economics from the University of Houston in 1953. It was also during this time that he met the love of his life, Robbie Lynn, at Texas Avenue Baptist Church. They were married on June 9, 1951, and shared 71 devoted years together. Shortly after his marriage, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Virginia. Lowell served as a communications officer from 1954-1958 and fondly remembered his time stationed in Vieques, Puerto Rico.
In 1958, Lowell began his distinguished 32 year career with Shell Pipeline, where he held numerous management positions across the country. His career culminated in serving as Vice President of Oil Movements, and managing the largest pipeline in the United States. In 1981, he and Robbie Lynn returned to Houston and made Pearland their home.
Retirement for Lowell did not mean slowing down. Together, he and Robbie Lynn traveled the world, visiting more than 90 countries. He developed a love for language and culture, returning annually to Antigua, Guatemala to study Spanish where he perfected his fluency. He even wrote children’s books in Spanish as a hobby. Lowell was a private pilot, enjoyed managing his citrus farm in the Rio Grande Valley, traveling abroad to build homes and water wells, and kept a close eye on the stock market – always looking for the next big opportunity.
He was a longtime member of Shadycrest Baptist Church and enjoyed simple pleasures like catching up with friends at Shipley’s Donuts, Friday night family dinners eating mexican food at Juanito’s or chatting in Spanish with anyone who would indulge him. He had a sharp, discerning mind, but his most salient attribute may have been his humility. All who crossed his path were treated with kindness and respect.
Lowell was preceded in death by his beloved wife Robbie Lynn, his parents Hosea and Annie Beck, and his siblings H.V. Beck, Horace Beck, Garner Beck, Lois Cerney, and Wilma Beck.
He is survived by his daughter Pam MacDonald of Houston, Texas, and son Galen Beck of Pearland, Texas; grandchildren Kristi Martin (Chad) and Dr. Andrew MacDonald (Amanda), both of Fort Worth; step-grandchildren Jamie MacDonald of League City, Alex MacDonald of Austin, and Katie Brinkley of League City; great- grandchildren Christopher Martin, Theresa MacDonald, Joshua MacDonald, Sophia Rose MacDonald, and Anna MacDonald; step-great-grandchildren Isabella MacDonald, Ian MacDonald, Blake Brinkley, and Dylan Brinkley; and sister-in-law Evelyn Beck.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lowell’s devoted caregivers, Dana Jackson and Vanessa Bourque, for their care, friendship, and kindness, which made it possible for Lowell to remain in his home until his passing.
Private graveside services will be held at South Park Cemetery and the National Cemetery.
Beautiful obituary for such a kind man, what a remarkable life he led. My heart goes out to the family and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I’m sure that Ronnie was waiting for him with open arms. Peace be with you all during this difficult time.
