Ruby Lee (Mitchell) Helms
Ruby Lee (Mitchell) Helms, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of God, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 86 in Alvin, Texas.
Born on August 12, 1939, in New Caney, Texas, to parents Audie and Elsie Mitchell, Ruby lived a life defined by kindness, patience, and unwavering faith. A true woman of God, she was a saint in the eyes of all who knew her. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and steadfast love left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She was deeply devoted to her husband, family, church, and faith. Ruby found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life—sewing with care, baking for those she loved, reading, and serving her church community. Exceptionally organized and dependable, she carried these qualities into every part of her life.
Throughout her career, Ruby worked as a bookkeeper and office manager, balancing her professional responsibilities with grace while lovingly raising her four sons and being a present grandmother. Her strength, dedication, and quiet perseverance were an example to all.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry Larnce Helms; her son, James Helms; her parents and nine out of twelve of her siblings.
She is survived by three sons: Alvin (Donna), Robert, and Russell (Melissa); her 10 grandchildren: James, Kyle, Christie, Amanda, Kimberly, Ashley, Logan, Amber, John, and LeAnne; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many extended family members, friends, and her church family, who loved her dearly.
Ruby will be remembered for her generous heart, steadfast faith, and the love she poured into everyone around her. Her legacy of kindness and devotion will continue to live on through her family and all those blessed to have known her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 3610 FM 646 Rd., League City, TX 77573
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Baptist Church or Lighthouse Christian Ministries in Ruby’s memory at https://nhbcleaguecity.com/give or https://lighthousecm.org

Aunt Ruby left lasting memories and life lessons to my children. Grandchildren and Karl and I. She was a prime example of an Aunt. We always felt her faith and Love. We had so many meaningful conversations and lots of laughter and fun with her. We will always cherish our time together and so many beautiful memories. She will be missed. We will meet again. Forever Thankful to have had her in our lives❤️ Love and Prayers for all her family and friends.
Ruby was such an inspiration to us while attending New Hope.
She organized everything for us. We often would be searching the kitchen for an item where it was last month, but Ruby would organize the kitchen and things didn’t always end up in the same location, but it was organized! She reminded us how important the unity that teamwork brings, all working toward one goal.
She loved her family, her church and community but most of all she loves the LORD and we will meet again, when JESUS rules!
