Harriet Bishop Dues

DICKINSON – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harriet Bishop Dues, October 29, 2026, a beautiful, kind, fun-loving woman that generously shared her life with so many. Harriet Ann, was the 6th and youngest child born to Harrold Ramsey Bishop, Jr “Harry” and Harriet Sandidge Bishop on June 6, 1957 in LaMarque, Texas.
Harriet was just 13 when she met the love of her life, 15-year-old Hal Dues. He would walk or bike two miles to see her, then wait across the street, gazing at her house and chewing on his T-shirt until she came outside. Inseparable from the start, they faced a painful separation when Harriet’s family moved to West Virginia in 1971, just before she began high school. During their five years apart, Harriet returned to Dickinson each summer to visit Hal, and their love never wavered. In the summer of ‘75, Hal was recruited to pitch for the Montreal Expos and Harriet wanted to go with him. Her daddy said “Oh h#ll no, you either get married or come home”!
Harriet and Hal married February 28, 1976, at Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church in Dickinson and began a wonderful, passionate and devoted life together. So much love surrounded this couple, from the large Dues and Bishop families to their vast amount of new and lifelong friends. Hal and Harriet celebrated 44 years of marriage before the unimaginable shock of Hal’s passing in 2020.
Hal and Harriet Dues were blessed with two beautiful children, Jennifer Ann (Timothy Bradley) and Tyler Joseph (Nicole Scott). Jennifer and Tyler gifted their parents with four handsome grandsons; Miles Bradley, and Caston, Nolan and Luke Dues. These four little boys brought Grandma and Grandpa indescribable joy, an explosive amount of energy, excitement and insurmountable love.
Harriet spent 33 years working for Stewart Title. She began as a receptionist, then promoted to Sales and Marketing, and finished her career as Branch Manager in Galveston. Harriet was a vital asset to the Association of Realtors, spending years supporting various events and auctions. Her time at the Title Company, and the people she worked alongside, held a very special place in her heart. She spent many of those same years volunteering with Big Brothers and Sisters in Galveston, helping to raise funds to support this amazing program and the children it served.
Harriet was a blessing—always smiling, laughing, and, yes, gossiping. She would begin her news with “Girrrllll, you’re not going to believe this” sparking laughter and curiosity in everyone anticipating the update. This most special lady will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, her sisters Rebecca “Becky” O’Toole (Terry), Margaret “Peggy” Bishop, Lucy Bishop, brother Harrold Ramsey Bishop III (Jeanean), and the entire Dues family. Harriet was proceeded in death by her parents, Hal, brother Charles “Charlie” Bishop, and nephew Charles Haston.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to, or volunteering to be a “Big”, with her favorite charity Big Brothers, Big Sisters Gulf Coast. We are deeply grateful to Connie Hupe, a devoted friend and caregiver whose gentle care and comfort helped Harriet pass peacefully into our Lord’s loving arms.
A private graveside service will be held at Mt Olivet Catholic Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at Marais, 2015 Fm 517 Rd E, Dickinson, from 12:00 noon to 4pm, Friday, November 13, 2026, where all who knew and loved her are invited to join in honoring and celebrating the life of our beloved Harriet Ann.
