Thomas Callie Nowlin

Thomas Callie Nowlin

Tom, born November 1, 1948, in Christopher, Illinois, was a devoted Christian, devoted family man, proud Marine, and a man who treasured the simple things in life—time spent outdoors and, most importantly, time spent with the people he loved.

Tom was called home on October 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, service, and countless memories that will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Tom proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970. His service was a part of who he was throughout his life. As the saying goes, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” Semper Fi.

Tom enjoyed fishing and hunting, but nothing compared to the joy he found in spending time with his family. His grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. Of all the things he valued throughout his life, the time spent surrounded by his family was the most precious.

Tom is survived by his bride, Cheryl; his children, Callie Estes and husband Joe, Misty Herbold and husband Bubba, Kendra El Mekati and husband Ahmed, Jake Cates and wife Cassie, and Mason Nowlin, brother Jim Valentine and wife Betty and faithful companion, Jameson.

He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Jadon Pfister (Gracie), Shaelah Pfister (Grant), Jazmine, Austin & Ronin Harper, Maya and Ty Pulliam and Faylynn, Izabella Estes and Owen, James Estes, Tarek El Mekati, Malik El Mekati, Oakley Cochran, Lyric Dickinson, Jake Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, June; his father, Jim Valentine; his grandmother, Lorraine Vanno; and Diane Nowlin.

His life will be remembered not simply by the years he lived or the things he accomplished, but by the family he loved, the memories he made with them, and the legacy he leaves behind in each of their lives.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Tom may make a donation to Wounded Warrior Project in his memory.

Semper Fi, Marine.
