Randall “Randy” James Cleland, 75, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on September 25, 2026. He was born on May 4, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Victor Lee Cleland and Doralee Allen. Randy had been a resident of Pearland since 2015, after moving from Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Randy had many interests throughout his life, but anyone who knew him knew that golf was much more than a pastime. He loved the game, talked about it often, and surrounded himself with reminders of it. Some of his favorite times were spent on the golf course with friends and family. He especially treasured the bond he shared over the years with his son and golf coach, Rocky, with golf becoming a special part of the relationship between them.

He was also a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan and had a special fondness for the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds. Randy loved the mountains and the beauty of the West, especially Colorado, a fondness he shared with his brothers and one that held many good memories for them.

Randy had a playful sense of humor and a way of bringing a little fun into life. He loved his family, his friends, and his dogs, all of whom were important parts of the life he built.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Cleland and Doralee Allen; his brother, John Cleland; and his beloved dogs, Maddie and Jackson.

Randy leaves behind his devoted wife of 49 years, Katherine Cleland, as well as his children, Dallas Cleland, Ginger Cobb (Brad), and Rocky Cleland. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Cleland; his sister, Kathy Cleland; his sister-in-law, Lela Gilchriest; his nieces, Meredith and Lauren; his nephews, Jason and Scott; and his grandchildren, Cameron Robinson (Hailey) and Halden Williams. His beloved dog, Izzy, who held a very special place in his heart, also remains part of the family he leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Randy consider making a donation in his memory to their local humane society or another animal or dog rescue organization.

And finally, because no story about Randy could possibly end without one more mention of golf, we’ll just say this: we hope the fairways are wide and the tee times are endless.
