Carrie Irene Whitburn, 73, passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Fe, Texas, on September 15, 2026.

Carrie was a fiercely dedicated mother and grandmother whose family was at the center of her world. She was the widow of her beloved husband, B.J. Whitburn, with whom she shared a life full of family, adventure, and even motorcycle rides together.

She leaves behind her children, Amy Jensen (Jens), Lori Greer (Samuel), Christina Beaudoin,Dawn Basset (Shawn),  Jen and Daniel Yancy, Derek Lacy (Tamra), Erika Harrison (Richard) and Jamie Ware (Tim); and her beloved grandchildren, Benjaman, Edwin, Haley, Rowdy, Michael, Kyler Bane, Stevie Lynn, KatieB, Logan, Charlie, and Beau Jaxon. She is also survived by her brothers, Steve Walker (Barbara) and Mike Walker (Peggy).

Carrie was an artist in every sense of the word.

Her creativity seemed to know no boundaries. Over the years, she explored a wide range of artistic pursuits, including hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery, jewelry making, mosaics, and sculpture. She was also a talented florist, with an eye for turning ordinary things into something beautiful.

But Carrie herself may have been one of her greatest works of art. She was fabulous, colorful, creative, and almost always blinged out. She had a style all her own and wasn’t afraid to show it.

For 15 years, Carrie was a treasured part of Third Coast Roller Derby, serving as head NSO and scorekeeper. Within her derby family, she was affectionately and appropriately known as “The Duchess of Score.” She gave countless hours to the sport and became part of the heart and history of the league.

Carrie believed in staying active and connected to her community. At Hometown Heroes, she participated in yoga, Zumba, Tai Chi, and Pilates. She also gave her time to charitable causes, including work with the Lighthouse Charity Team and Blue Santa programs.

Her love for animals—especially her dogs—was another constant throughout her life. At one point, she even worked as a dog trainer and breeder, combining that love with her natural patience and dedication.

Carrie lived a life that could never be described as ordinary. She created things. She helped people. She loved animals. She rode motorcycles. She cheered on roller derby. She danced, stretched, sculpted, planted herself firmly in the middle of her family, and added a little sparkle wherever she went.

Above all else, Carrie loved her family fiercely.

She was a mother, grandmother, sister, wife, artist, friend, and one-of-a-kind force who leaves behind a family profoundly shaped by her love.

There will never be another Duchess of Score.

And knowing Carrie, she wouldn’t have wanted there to be.

In her honor, there will be a memorial service on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 1:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.
