Patricia Anne Motherway, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Pasadena, Texas, in the early morning hours of July 4th, 2026, after having recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Born Patricia Anne Marshall on October 8, 1941, in Brownsville, Tx, Patricia grew up with a love for the beautiful sand and sun of the South Texas Coast. She graduated with National Honor Society Honors from Brownsville High School in 1959 and eventually moved to Houston, where she began a career at the phone company. There, a handsome “young Paul Newman look-alike” with a great sense of humor by the name of Joseph Motherway captured her heart. They loved trips to the beach and dates in Tijuana, Mexico.

They married and welcomed their only child in October of 1969, the day after her 28th birthday. Patricia devoted her life to being the best mother possible to “Joe Jr.,” whom she loved with her entire being. She kept every grade school report card and every college paper that Joe wrote. She lovingly helped catalogue Joe’s vinyl record collection and has endured enough exposure to 70’s & 80’s Punk Rock that she ought to qualify for the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond W. Marshall and Marjorie Anne (Bubar) Marshall, her husband, Joseph C. Motherway, and her brother, William Marshall. Though she loved several pets over the course of her life, her last dog, Angel, deserves mention. She was an unexpected addition Joe brought home in 2014—a sweet but neurotic little 11-pound fluff ball that was on the “banned list” of every groomer in town! Patricia loved and pampered Angel for 10 years until she passed in 2024. She is survived by her son, Joseph C. Motherway Jr., as well as by her nephew, Billy Marshall, his wife Gina, and their children Jordan, Daniel & Aaron.

Although not related by blood, Patricia deeply loved and participated in the lives of Joe’s closest friends, David Padgett, Lori and Travis Lindsay, and Aaron Broussard and Josh Lopez.

Services to honor Patricia’s memory will be held Tuesday, July 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas. Attendees are encouraged to wear purple, her favorite color.

There will be a private gravesite service at a later date and time.

To honor Patricia, her family and friends are encouraged to wear shades of purple.
