Marietta R. Connell
Marietta R. Connell, 100, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026 in League City, Texas. She was born on September 18, 1925 in Maspeth, Queens, New York, the youngest child of Baldasarre Orlando and Michelina (Castrogiovanni) Orlando.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Francis (Tink) Connell and they celebrated 64 years of marriage; and by her sister Clara (Carol) Hermance and brother Frank Orlando. Marietta (Marie) is survived by: her daughter Kathleen M. Keller (Dick) and son Thomas M. Connell (Jorie); grandchildren, Michael and Mark Connell (Tom and Jorie) and John, Ryan and Sean Keller (Kathi and Dick); great grandchildren, Amelia, John Steven, Jameson, Vinnie, Graham, and Lydia; many nieces and nephews and other family members.
Marie lived through an entire century of history from the Roaring ‘20s, through the Great Depression and World War II and well into a new millennium. She loved growing up in Maspeth and was so proud of her diverse neighborhood and sense of community. On October 24, 1948 she married Tink, the love of her life, and they raised their 2 children in Rosendale, New York. They moved to Houston in 1990 to be near family after retirement.
She was a dedicated member and volunteer at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rosendale and St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Clear Lake City. At St Peter’s she served as a volunteer administrator/bookkeeper and on the church bazaar staff. She continued to volunteer at St Bernadette with Helping Hands, parish mailings and the Carmeliters Senior Group. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to so many wonderful places in the US, Canada and Europe and especially loved multiple visits to her ancestral home country Italy. They had the best life together traveling with the Carmeliters. Just imagine the joyful reunion when Tink and Marie reunited. Heaven just became a happier place.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, a Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real, Houston, TX 77062. Interment of her urn will take place afterwards at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
