Richard Dean Sell
On May 13, 2026, Richard Dean Sell of Seabrook, Texas, passed away unexpectedly in his home. Rick was born on April 9,1962, to Ronald and Florence Sell, the second of four children and the only son. The family lived in Houston until Ronald was temporarily transferred to Waldwick, New Jersey during 1967 through 1969. Then in 1970-1975 the Sell family lived in Pinewood, near Beaumont. After that they settled in El Lago.
As a young boy Ricky had a kind and happy disposition. He was always a good son to his mother and held his own among the three sisters. Rick and his dad had a close relationship. They shared a love of the outdoors, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy it together. Rick was graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1980. He briefly attended Lamar University in Beaumont and quickly decided it was not what he wanted to do. His carpentry skills led him to become a free-lance carpenter for a time, during which he often repaired boats. He lived on a houseboat for a number of years.
Rick was a gifted artist. His talent showed in everything he did, from gardening, to cooking, to building a play yard for Ron. Other hobbies filled his days; fishing (lots of fishing), hunting, collecting, and watching his beloved Astros and Rockets. Rick loved to talk politics. If you knew Rick, you know who he voted for in the last three presidential elections. Rick enjoyed hanging out with family and friends, but most of all Rick cherished time spent with his much-loved son, Ron.
Preceding Rick in death are his parents and his grandnephew Grant Freeman.
He is survived by his son, Ronald Alexander Sell; his sisters Charlotte Sell Schwarzlose and her husband Bob, Alice May Sell, and Laura Sloan Sell; nephews John Schwarzlose and wife Diana, Charles Schwarzlose and wife Haley; grand nieces and nephews Hadleigh, McKinney, Emily, Trip, Kathleen, Hayes, Hank, and Heidi.
Rick will be remembered by his family and friends as a guy who loved with all his heart and lived a life of unique individuality.
A Memorial Service will be held for Rick on May 23rd, 2026, starting at 11am at Crowder Funeral Home in Webster. 111 E. Medical Center Blvd, Houston, TX 77598.
