Edward Mark Anthony Perera
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Mark Anthony Perera, who departed this life peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on November 8, 2025, at the age of 91. He now rests in eternal life with our Lord.
Born on January 13, 1934, in Katana, Sri Lanka, Ed was the beloved son of Richard and Mary Perera. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Father Bernard Perera, OMI. A proud alumnus of St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, Ed graduated with a degree in mathematics before embarking on a distinguished career in the Royal Ceylon Navy (RCN), where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
During his naval service, Ed met the love of his life, Manel, and they married in 1960, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 65 years. His dedication to learning led him to earn a Master’s Degree in Oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
Following his naval career, Ed transitioned to the oil industry, where he worked as a subsea pipeline chief engineer, contributing to projects across the globe. His professional achievements were matched by his devotion to faith and family. Ed was a longtime parishioner of Mary Queen Catholic Church (Friendswood, TX) and more recently of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community (Manvel, TX).
Ed leaves behind his cherished wife, Manel, and their children: Dilshad Perera, Manoj (Romani) Perera, Jeevan Perera, Kumar Perera, and Ashok (Stacie Pacitti) Perera. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Ian Perera, Amrit Perera, Anjali Perera, Joshua Perera, and Alyssa Perera.
Ed will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, deep faith, passion for travel and the love he shared with all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
