Nina was born in Santiago, Chile, on May 9, 1940, to Antonio Trivelli and Felicia Grandal. She received her bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Chile in Santiago, and her master’s degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. On September 16, 1971, she married Ewald Juan Burckhardt, and together they raised their daughter Heidi and son Dieter.

Nina was happiest when she was helping people, whether through her vocation as a social worker, or as a friend, confidant and companion. Her life was as colorful as the stories she read in the countless novels she collected through the years. Her curiosity and passion for life spurred her love of travel, leading her to explore North America, Europe, Asia, and her native Chile. In her spare time, she lovingly tended her garden of roses, cultivated her special recipes for every occasion, and shared with friends and family the stories that comprised her long and vibrant life.

Nina lived a life without regret, fear or wanting. She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Felicia, and brothers Osvaldo and Eddo. She is survived by her husband of 48 years Ewald, her children Heidi and Dieter, grandson Max, and an extended family spanning several continents that loves and honors her deeply.
