Susan Lee Massare

Susan Lee Massare, beloved wife of John Steve Massare, passed away at their home in Dickinson Texas on February 2, 2018.  She was 70 years old. Born in Buffalo, New York she graduated from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY where she received a BA.   Her career was devoted to eye care and research. She retired from the Louisiana State University Eye Center where she worked with Herbert Kaufman, MD, in the refractive surgery department.

In addition to her husband of 47 years, Susan is survived by her brother, Reverend Dr. Mark David Janus, her sister Celeste Winters, her nephew Caleb Winters, niece Camellia Redding and her daughter in law Dr. Melanie Massare.

Susan and John suffered the loss of their son, Dr. John Simon Massare, and in lieu of flowers, Susan requested that donations be made to the fund established in his memory: Dr. John Massare Memorial Scholarship for Technique Fund.

The family will celebrate her life in a private funeral and committal ceremony at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery via Crowder Funeral Home.

  2. To the Massare family, my deepest condolences to you in the passing of Susan. She was an amazing and beautiful human being. She will be greatly missed by so many, but particularly Melanie and her sister, Amanda. Perhaps one little moment of comfort is to know that she and her precious son, John, are together.
