Lanetta Weller

Lanetta Lyn Hollis Weller, 53, of Taylor Lake Village joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on February 16, 2018. She was surrounded by family and friends singing “Amazing Grace” as she left this world.

She was born on March 11, 1964 in Springfield, Missouri, to Alan Hollis and Gaynell Holding Hollis.  A few years later they moved to Richland Hills, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth, where she graduate from Richland high School in 1982.  That fall she enrolled at Texas Christian University where her purple blood flowed freely; she was a member of the TCU Spirit Wranglers, attending all of the home football games.  A political science major, she served as an officer in the Pre-Law society.  She graduated magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board.  She was also a member of student government for her four years.  During her years at TCU and afterwards she worked for state representatives Lanny Hall, then Bob Leonard, and finally Anna Mowery logging approximately eight years working for the Texas House of Representatives.

While at TCU she was active in Young Democrats, meeting her future husband at a party where Eddie was mesmerized by her beauty and intelligence—something that never changed.  After a few months she agreed to marry him, wedding on June 14, 1986 in Robert Carr Chapel at TCU.  Shortly after their marriage they got their first dog, a mixed breed named Governor White.

In 1989 Lanetta and Eddie moved to Houston when Eddie became a history professor with San Jacinto College.  Soon thereafter they joined and became active in Nassau Bay Baptist Church.  There she volunteered in Vacation Bible School for more than a quarter of a century.  She also taught kindergarteners in Sunday School for the last eighteen years and worked with preschool choir for a decade.  She also worked with GAs and later AWANAs for a number of years.

In 1993, the greatest joy entered Lanetta’s and Eddie’s lives when their son Cecil Edward Weller, III (“Trey”) was born.  Life was never fuller or more fun.  Lanetta was a devoted mother.  She was at every gymnastics practice for years.  She served as a room mom every year at Bay Elementary.  When Trey joined the WAVE Program at Westbrook Intermediate, she volunteered constantly, serving as an officer of the band parents’ organization, and receiving the Volunteer-of-the-Year award at Westbrook.  As Trey moved to Clear Lake High School, she continued to volunteer with the band parents, serving as a chaperone on practically every band trip, competition, and game.  She also began substituting for the WAVE program, first at Westbrook, and then adding League City Intermediate when WAVE expanded to two campuses.  She was still active as a sub for the WAVE program this year, loving the many children she came to know.

When Trey went to Texas State University, she enjoyed going to see him, visiting him as he led worship at his church, as he played in band concerts and at football games, and as he received numerous awards.  She beamed with pride at his academic success, graduating summa cum laude with a BA in English.  She was proud of his abilities as a writer; she enjoyed reading the rough drafts of the four book series he has crafted.

Those who cherish her memory include her husband of 31 years, Eddie; her son Trey, her sister Landa Hebert and husband John; her “mother-in-love” Sarah Weller; her sister-in-law Dotti Newberry and husband Richard; her sister-in-law Margie Broussard and husband Trent, eight nieces and nephews, and eight great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Alan and Gaynell Hollis and her father-in-law Cecil Weller.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Sunday at Crowder Funeral Home Webster, TX. (111 East Medical Center Blvd.). The funeral will be at 2 pm Monday at Nassau Bay Baptist Church. The family asks anyone whom comes to the visitation or funeral to wear bright colors; purple and pink were Lanetta’s favorite. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nassau Bay Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, the San Jacinto College Foundation (for a scholarship), or the Houston Beagle and Hound Rescue.

  11. Eddie: You, Trey and family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Lanetta was one-of-a kind–always at her duty station at church. I know that she was often-times in pain, but never complained. Gavin always loved having Lanetta as a substitute teacher at the WAVE school at League City Intermediate.
