James “Mickey” Michael Goodwin

James “Mickey” Michael Goodwin, age 69, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Michael E. Debakey VA Memorial Hospital.  He was born on November 9, 1947, in Houston, Texas, as the son of Robert Earl Goodwin and Naomi Doris Roach.  He graduated from Milby High School in 1966 and continued his education with an associate’s degree at San Jacinto College.

Upon graduation, he served in the US Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.  He was very proud to serve his country and remained a staunch advocate of the armed forces throughout his life.  During a brief leave, he married the love of his life, Rhonda Lynn Spiller, in 1968.   Soon after, he received his greatest accomplishment by becoming a dad of Brian, Brandon, and Kimberly.  His most favorite memories are times spent with his family and friends who all lived close by.  As a vocation, he worked after the Army as a newspaper journeyman for the Houston Chronicle and Houston Post.  After hanging up his newspaper shoes, he worked as an independent real estate broker in the greater Pearland and Houston area.  You could always find him wheeling and dealing a new sale and finding families a home that they could create memories with for many years.  For leisure, Mickey loved playing golf with his friends and watching any Houston sports team, but particularly, the Houston Astros.  A lifelong baseball fan, he coached many little league teams and most recently could be found in the stands cheering for his grandson playing for Pearland Little League.  More than anything, he loved attending the events of his grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments.

Mickey is survived by his wife, Rhonda Spiller Goodwin of Pearland; his oldest son, Brian Goodwin; his son, Brandon Goodwin and daughter-in-law, Lindy Goodwin; and daughter, Kimberly Goodwin Gale, and son-in-law, David Gale, all of Pearland.  He is also survived by his grandchildren:  William Gale, McKenna Simecek, Austin Goodwin, Megan Gale, Melanie Gale, Caden Goodwin, and Carly Goodwin, all of Pearland.  He will also be loved and missed by his brother and sisters, Gary Austin “Buddy” Goodwin and his wife Patsy of Lago Vista; Mary Katherine Goodwin Stagni of Golden Valley, Minnesota, and her husband Lee; and Deborah Susan Goodwin Kennedy, of Elkhardt, Texas, and her husband Mark along with his many nieces and nephews, who he loved very much.  He will also be missed by his in-laws, Bonnie and David McFarland and Larry and Dona Spiller all of Madisonville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Glenn Goodwin.

Services for Mickey Goodwin will be held at Crowder Funeral Home.  Visitation will be on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland, Texas, at 2422 East Broadway St, Pearland, TX.  Official services will be on Saturday, March 18th, at Crowder Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., followed by a brief graveside burial service at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Madisonville, Texas, on Saturday afternoon.  Friends may share a memory or a condolence at https://www.crowderfuneralhome.com.  The family would like to extend its appreciation for the outpouring of support from friends and the community during this difficult time.
