Edward Michael Hogan Sr.

Edward Michael Hogan Sr., 89, longtime resident of Dickinson, Texas passed away November 27, 2017 in League City, Texas. He was born in Galveston, Texas June 22, 1928 to parents Patrick John Hogan and Laura Cecile Hogan. He was a graduate of Kirwin High and was employed by the Galveston News before entering the service. Edward, better known as Eddie, was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952, when he was injured in the line of duty. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for giving medical aid to injured comrades after he had been seriously wounded himself in a Korean hill fight.
He worked twelve years at Union Carbide and also worked twenty-four years as Postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Dickinson, Texas.
Eddie was an active member of the Dickinson community and True Cross Catholic Church and school where his children and some of his grandchildren attended. He belonged to the VFW (serving in several leadership roles, including Commander), American Legion, DAV, and Chairman of the street-lights committee, Board of Directors of the Dickinson Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Postmasters, National League of Postmasters and the Knights of Columbus. He also served as Alderman for the Village of Dickinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Laura Kay Hogan.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife Wilma Rose Hogan; daughters, Paula Hogan Przestrzelski, Carol Hogan Boyd Collins and husband Robert, and Sharon Hoffman and husband Greg; sons, Eddie Michael Hogan Jr., David Patrick Hogan and wife Melissa; fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; cousin Mary Frances Morales and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017 at Crowder Funeral Home in League City, Texas.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Galveston, Texas with interment following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.
